Elon Musk confirms Robotaxi launch delay, explains why

Vlad, 15 July 2024

Last week a report surfaced claiming Tesla would be delaying its planned August 8 unveiling event for the Robotaxi. And today Elon Musk himself has confirmed this, in a post on X.

As you can see, Musk says "an important design change to the front" is the reason behind the delay, and since Tesla's teams now have more time to work on the car, they can also "show off a few other things", whatever those may be.

Musk hasn't outright confirmed the rumored October time frame for the unveiling, but hasn't denied it either - and when reports like the one last week get something incorrect he is generally very quick with his refutations, so we can safely assume that October is Tesla's target, at least right now. Of course, things may still change in the future and make the date slip again. We'll let you know if anything like that happens.

The Robotaxi is Tesla's next big thing, the thing that it allegedly canceled the cheaper Model 2 in favor of, even though that car was meant to bring EVs to more people. The Robotaxi, on the other hand, is a much more impressive-sounding vehicle, and that may be why Musk, ever the memer, has preferred it.

I meant Musk is scared of releasing model 2 not to get into $25000 segment competition. robotaxi is nothing but a showoff. it has neither any competition nor any significant commercial value.

1. robotaxis won't compete with those. 2. same as apple, people buy teslas for the ecosystem 3. don't know about european brands but korean cars are easy to steal look up kia boyz on youtube. 4. always buy japanese, they use the highe...

Musk is scared of the competition in that tough price range more likely to be dominated by Renault, Fiat, Hyundai, Kia, Toyota, Peugeot and etc.
