Ford unveils adventure-ready E-Tourneo Courier

Ford unveiled its city-bound E-transit Courier only last month. The clever van, full of smart solutions and a decent battery capacity, received a very warm welcome from the public. Hot on its heels comes the passenger version - the E-Tourneo Courier.

The E-Tourneo Courier is identical in almost every bit to its load-lugging twin. They share the same electric motor pushing the front wheels with 100 kW of power. They share the same battery Ford is refusing to share details of (we are guessing it has about 62 kWh capacity), only to reveal it is capable of up to 100 kWh DC fast-charging. The battery can add 87 km of range in just 10 minutes as long as it’s plugged into that 100 kW DC charger.

The home-charging will take a little bit longer, the company claims 5 hours and 42 minutes from 10% to 100% charge, but you’ll need at least 11 kW supply. Ford has teamed up with Wallbox and offers a clever app that helps with charge scheduling to ensure the car charges at the cheapest rate possible.

It is inside though, where the new E-Tourneo is the real master of space. With its higher roof, the sitting position for all passengers is more upright and that translates to shorter length - yet there are oodles of room. There is a half-decent frunk for keeping all the charging cables tidy, the absolutely cavernous trunk offers 44% more space than the previous model. A quick check reveals that this should translate to 568 liters of cargo space with all 5 seats up.

The size is one thing, it’s the amount of clever storage throughout the car that makes a huge difference - ask any parent taking the kids for a day out at the beach. There is storage for dirty shoes, and there are bins for keeping goggles and bicycle helmets safe and out of the way. And when the time comes for the IKEA trip - the new E-Tourneo Courier is your perfect companion. Put the rear seats down, and just like the E-Transit, it has enough room for a Euro pallet - what other family car does that?

For those long road trips, the E-Tourneo offers pretty much everything we expect from modern vehicles - wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are built in, the 12-inch infotainment screen is large enough to display all the info driver, and the passengers may need, without taking over the entire dashboard. Wireless phone charger is available as well, and of course, the OTA updates will keep the little Ford ship-shape for years to come.

Ford E-Tourneo Courier is part of the company’s pledge to introduce 10 all-electric vehicles in Europe by the end of next year. This ambitious goal will put a lot of pressure on Ford, but it is what’s needed to remain relevant, and the company knows that rather well. The E-Tourneo joins the new Ford Explorer, the new E-Transit Courier, and E-Transit Custom and will be followed by the updated Ford Puma, and even Ford F-150 Lightning is making its way to the Old Continent.

The E-Tourneo will go on sale at the start of 2024, together with its cargo sibling, both vehicles will be manufactured alongside the new Ford Puma at the Craiova plant in Romania. Its success will depend on its price, and if the company manages to keep it at an affordable level - the E-Tourneo just may steal the show.
