GM receives an overwhelming number of Hummer EV orders, new ones ship in 2024
GM has received more than 65,000 orders for its Hummer EVs. Per GMC VP, Duncan Aldred, speaking to CNBC, of those 65 thousand, about 95% are converting their reservations into actual orders.
The amount comes as a pleasant surprise for GM, which didn't expect so high interest. The carmaker is now looking to expedite the production of its EVs and looking to secure vital components such as battery cells.
GM plans to make two Hummer EVs at its Detroit plant - the current pickup and an upcoming SUV.
GM is currently producing the Edition 1 model - the best-specced truck that runs some $110,000 (though will likely cost more through dealers). The Hummer EV 3X will cost around $100,000, while there are plans for cheaper Hummer EVs in the future - the Hummer 2X for $89,995 and the Hummer EV 2, which is expected to launch at $79,995.
GMC VP Aldred revealed that Hummers ordered today are expected to be shipped to buyers in 2024.
