Huawei and Chery launch the Luxeed R7 SUV to rival Tesla's Model Y
Luxeed, a Huawei and Chery-backed brand, just announced its fully electric R7 SUV, which shapes up to be a proper Model Y competitor in China. It undercuts the Tesla, while at the same time it offers a longer list of features.
The Luxeed R7 comes in four trims - Pro, two Max options and an Ultra. Only the latter offers two electric motors, while the rest feature just one mounted on the back. The battery options are two - 82 kWh and 100 kWh, rated at 414 miles and 498 miles according to CLTC.
The vehicle is based on Huawei's Giant Whale 800V platform and measures 195.1 inches in length. The R7 also features Huawei's Tuling Intelligent Chassis for smart road recognition and some trims offer the Qiankun ADS 3.0 driver assistance system. The latter even supports features like valet parking and summoning.
When it comes to pricing, the Pro asks RMB 259,800 ($36,940), the two Max options are priced at RMB 299,800 ($42,630) and RMB 319,800 ($45,500) and the Ultra will go for RMB 339,800 ($48,320). However, at these prices, the company estimates selling each unit for around RMB 30,000 ($4,200) loss, but things will likely improve when production ramps up to address growing demand.
