Huawei's AITO M9 is coming to take on Mercedes and Range Rover, specs leak

Vlad, 01 August 2023

Huawei's car brand AITO, which it fully acquired last year, is hard at work creating its next vehicle, following the successful M5 and M7. The next model will be called M9, which already tells you something about it - namely, that it will be bigger and more expensive than the M7.

The M9 is apparently intended to take on Mercedes and Range Rover, and it's been in development for a very long time - in fact, its development is said to have started right alongside the M5's. Today a few specs for the M9 have been leaked in China.

The AITO M9 will run Huawei's HarmonyOS 4.0, which will make its official debut on August 4. It will support rear-wheel steering to enable an outrageously small turning radius of under 228.3 inches, and the car's height will be under 72.8 inches.

Inside, the front passenger will get a screen of their own, unlike the setup in the M5 and M7. A laser projector will also be installed in the car for the rear passengers, and the second and third rows of seats will be movable and removable.

The M9 will use an 800V platform enabling very quick charging, and, according to Huawei Smart Car CEO Yu Chengdong, it's not going to be cheap.
