It looks like Lexus is working on a 3-row, fully electric SUV called TZ450e

Ro, 20 July 2023

Lexus recently introduced its big TX SUV, tailored mostly for the US market. It comes in various configurations but none of them include an electric powertrain. Interestingly enough, a trademark filed in the British Intellectual Property Office and EUIPO (the European counterpart) suggests that Lexus is planning to introduce the vehicle with a fully electric powertrain as well. At least according to the "TZ450e" branding.

Lexus' typical branding scheme checks out as "Z" stands for zero emissions. It's present in all of the company's EV naming, including Toyota. There seems to be a filing for the top tier trim too - TZ550e.

Unfortunately, there's nothing else we can work with here so we can only speculate for now. And even though the TZ will likely bring similar, if not almost identical, aesthetics to its TX 3-row SUV, the hardware will be quite different. Design is also unknown, but a previously introduced concept that looks a lot like the TX serves as a glimpse of what to expect. Of course, the front fascia grille from the TX will be left out.

The TX SUV is based on the company's TNGA-K platform, which isn't designed for EVs so the TZ will most likely debut with Lexus' upcoming EV platform. The CEO himself has confirmed that the new platform will drive at least ten new Toyota and Lexus EVs between now and 2026.

We also don't know whether Lexus will use some of its existing powertrains or use something entirely new for its upcoming TZ.
