Leapmotor reveals new D99 electric flagship
During its 10th-anniversary celebration in Hangzhou, the Chinese car manufacturer Leapmotor introduced its newest flagship models to the public. The company revealed the D99, which is the brand's very first MPV. At the same event, the company also shared more details about the D19, a large family SUV that first appeared in October.
The Leapmotor D99 is a large vehicle designed to carry many people comfortably. It measures more than 17.1 ft long and nearly 7 ft wide. To make sure there is plenty of legroom inside, the wheelbase is over 10.2 ft. On the outside, the D99 looks modern with a two-tone paint job and special "Aspiration" 19-inch wheels. The back of the car has a large door for easy loading and a special light display that can show different patterns.
Safety and technology are major parts of these new EVs. The D99 is built with a very strong body to protect passengers during a crash. It also features a smart driving system powered by two high-tech Qualcomm Snapdragon 8797 chips. These chips help the car understand its surroundings using a visual-language system. On the roof, there is a LiDAR that helps the car "see" the road and other vehicles.
Leapmotor plans to offer two different ways to power the new D99. The first is a battery electric vehicle (BEV) version that runs only on electricity. This version uses a massive 115 kWh battery made by CATL. It uses a 1000V system, which allows it to charge very quickly. The second option is an extended-range electric vehicle (EREV). This version has a small engine that acts like a generator to charge the battery while you drive. The EREV uses an 80.3 kWh battery, which is the largest ever put into this type of car in China.
The Leapmotor D19 SUV is also an important part of the company's future. It will officially go on sale and start reaching customers in April 2026. Like the MPV, the D19 comes in both BEV and EREV versions. The all-electric D19 can travel up to 447 miles on a single charge. The version with the range extender can travel 311 miles using just its battery before the generator needs to help. Inside, the D19 will give families plenty of choice, as it comes with either six or seven seats.
Leapmotor has grown very fast over the last ten years. In November alone, the company sold over 70,000 vehicles. By the end of 2025, they expect to have sold nearly 600,000 cars for the year. The company is now selling its electric cars in 35 different countries outside of China. Looking ahead to 2026, the brand hopes to sell one million vehicles in a single year. With the launch of the D99 and the D19, the company is moving away from just making small cars and is now focused on luxury family vehicles.
