Lexus show off its RZ 450e EV, coming on April 20
Lexus will officially announce its first fully-electric car on April 20. It will be called RZ 450e and Lexus showed off the car in a series of press photos, revealing a very traditional Lexus styling with sharp headlights and sporty lines.
The Lexus RZ 450e will likely be a revamped Toyota bZ4X, and as such it will share the 71.4 kWh battery and possibly the drivetrain.
The bZ4X brings a combined 160kW (218hp) output paired to either a single electric motor on the front or two motors for all-wheel drive. It reaches 100 km/h in 7.7 seconds.
Lexus shared an image of the RZ 450e's interior and it sports a yoke steering wheel. This design was brought back to popularity by Tesla in the Model S and Model X, but it's also an available option for the Toyota bZ4X. But where Tesla uses a conventional 14.0:1 steering ratio, Toyota uses a drive-by-wire system with a lock-to-lock radius of 150 degrees - alleviating the need to adjust your grip.
Like the Toyota, the Lexus RZ 450e will likely offer a traditional round steering wheel as a standard.
April 20 is shaping up to be a big day for EVs - BMW will also premiere its electrified luxury sedan, the i7.
