Mark your calendars - Lincoln EV is coming on April 20
Long awaited Lincoln EV is finally coming. Lincoln was very enigmatic with the teaser video, making sure it showed nothing of significance beyond the April 20 announcement date. but this is 2022 and the Internet is full of information - let’s find out some more.
Lincoln Zephyr PrototypeFirst the name - the Internet is calling it Mark E, but we are pretty sure that’s not the final name. The design will be heavily influenced by the Zephyr prototype which we first saw back in 2021 at Shanghai Auto Show. Being based on the Ford Mustang Mach-E we can expect it to be a premium product as all Lincoln products, we will most likely see screens galore in the new model, neutral colors and opulent materials.
Lincoln Zephyr InteriorThe technical side is quite interesting, the new EV will ride on a modified Ford Mustang Mach-E platform. It was meant to be powered by Rivian’s motors from R1 but that agreement unfortunately ended and it looks like Lincoln will be using Ford’s components. We can expect to see the 480hp twin motor setup backed by a 98.8kWh battery pack with a similar range to Mustang Mach-E of about 350 miles.
Lincoln "test mule"Is there going to be a more powerful version? It is quite possible, we came across these spy photos that initially were described as “widebody Mustang Mach-E” but what they actually show is so called “test mule”. It actually is the new Lincoln EV, or rather its chassis with a body of Mach-E stuck on top of it. First thing that pops out (literally) is the wider track, the wheel arches had to be extended to cover the wheels. The ride height is increased compared to Mustang but the biggest, or most telling difference, is the number of lug nuts in those wheels. That’s right - 6 nuts! What does it mean? It means a more powerful drivetrain. And we can see that the wheelbase is as long as the body! New Lincoln will be wider, taller, longer and will have more power than the Mustang Mach-E then.
Lincoln "test mule"April is shaping up to be a super interesting month when it comes to EV announcements, we can’t wait to see the new Lincoln EV. Legacy automakers are, if you'll excuse the pun, charging really fast, trying to catch up to Tesla and Lucid and Rivian and that is great news. It means we will be spoiled for choice not long from now.
