Model 3 Highland to go on sale next month - Tesla turns on discounts galore

Tesla has been concocting some intriguing strategies in the Chinese market. To start, the company has a revamped Model 3 up its sleeve. Set to sashay into the Chinese market in just a short few weeks, it seems Tesla's local clientele is eagerly awaiting its grand entrance. Some have even said, "Why settle for the old when the new is just around the corner?" - which is likely a rough translation from Mandarin but perfectly encapsulates the sentiment.

The long-awaited Project Highland is finally coming to the market and Elon may wanna try to keep it secret as much as he likes. The world already knows the game is up and sales of the current Model 3 are painfully slow, with European customers being told of delivery delays - possibly suggesting the refreshed models is about to go globally.

You see, while Tesla has been throwing discounts like confetti at a New Year's party – be it for the Model Y or even for the tried-and-true Model 3 – the Chinese consumer is playing hard to get. They've been given a sneak peek of what's cooking behind Tesla's curtain – the "Highland" version of Model 3. And once you've seen the future, it's hard to settle for the present, isn't it?

Tesla is not only slashing prices for the Model Y and Model 3, but they've also gone ahead and turned the discount dial up to 11 for their imported models. The Model S and Model X are now cheaper by a significant margin, there’s between $7,400 to $9,600 you can now pocket, or, you know, spend on those other shiny things.

But here's where things get interesting (or confusing, depending on how many cups of coffee you've had). If you decide to skip the showroom visit and instead navigate to Tesla China's website, you'll notice that the Model S and Model X prices have remained unchanged. It seems the discounts are for all in-stock vehicles, but then again, ordering in the showroom of an out-of-stock vehicle still triggers discounts - interesting.

The party doesn't stop there. You know, the "tell your friend, and we'll give you both a treat" kind of deal? Tesla is amplifying that by incentivizing Model S and Model X purchases based on friend recommendations. So, if you convince your buddy to splurge, not only do they get a bunch of perks, but you also get a hefty pile of bonus points.

Tesla's Shanghai factory, which is the heart of their operations in China, currently only produces the Model 3 and Model Y. This means the snazzier Model S and Model X have to be imported. And yet, they're getting discounts. Oh, the mysteries of the automotive world! Tesla's sales numbers in July may not have made headlines, but they're still impressive. Delivering 31,423 vehicles in China and exporting 32,862, Tesla is ensuring the world knows of its electric presence.
