Hyundai Ioniq 6 N spotted testing in South Korea

Max McDee, 27 August 2024

The Hyundai Ioniq 6 is getting a makeover. Spy shots and insider information reveal a facelift that includes redesigned headlights and potentially a larger battery for increased range. But the most electrifying news? A high-performance N variant is already in the works.

The Ioniq 6, launched in 2022, has already made a name for itself as Hyundai's most energy-efficient EV yet. The facelift is expected to include a number of enhancements, starting with the front end. A redesigned bumper and headlights, apparently reminiscent of the new Hyundai Sonata, will give the car a fresh look.

According to inside knowledge, a larger 84 kWh battery could replace the current 77.4 kWh unit. This upgrade should push the Ioniq 6's range beyond its current EPA-estimated 361 miles. For context, the recently refreshed Ioniq 5 facelift, with its 84 kWh battery, boasts a range improvement of up to 50 miles, depending on the model.

Perhaps the most exciting development is the arrival of an N-branded Ioniq 6. Hyundai has already given its Ioniq 5 the N treatment, resulting in a high-performance EV with up to 601 horsepower and a 0-60 mph time of just over 3 seconds. The Ioniq 6 N is expected to follow in its sibling's footsteps, potentially even surpassing its performance figures.

Spy shots have captured the Ioniq 6 facelift sporting N-branded wheels, further fueling speculation. Hyundai's N models are known for their track-ready features, and the Ioniq 6 N is likely to be no exception. Expect to see features like Race Mode, Launch Control, N Grin Boost, and Drift Optimizer. These features will transform the Ioniq 6 from a comfortable and efficient daily driver into a serious track tool.
