The electric vehicle market is heating up in Australia, with Kia's new EV5 entering the scene with a competitive price tag and a focus on family-friendly features. Kia, known for its value-oriented vehicles, is directly challenging the dominance of Tesla's Model Y with its latest offering.

First unveiled at the Chengdu Motor Show last year, the Kia EV5 was initially slated for a summer release in markets outside of China, but software refinements caused a slight delay.

Australian car buyers, however, won't have to wait much longer. Kia recently announced that the EV5 will hit Aussie dealerships this month with a starting price of AU$56,770. This is lower than the Tesla Model Y, which starts at $58,700 in Australia.

The EV5 will be available in three trim levels: Air, Earth, and GT-Line. Buyers can also choose between two battery options. The standard range battery, with a capacity of 64.2 kWh, provides a driving range of up to 249 miles. For those needing more range, the larger 88.1 kWh battery offers up to 345 miles on a single charge.

In terms of size, the EV5 measures 181.7 inches in length, 73.8 inches in width, and 67.5 inches in height. This makes it slightly smaller than the Tesla Model Y, which stands at 187 inches long, 75.6 inches wide, and 63.9 inches tall. Despite the difference in dimensions, the EV5 offers comparable interior space and practicality.

Kia has equipped the EV5 with the latest infotainment system, featuring a dual 12.3-inch driver display and navigation screen. The ccNC system offers a user-friendly interface and a wide range of connectivity options.
