Renault resurrects a legend: Renault 5 Turbo 3E
The automotive world can be full of surprises, and today is one of those days. Today, we are celebrating an unexpected revival: the Renault 5 Turbo 3E. This isn't a concept car like the original R5 Turbo 3E was. Renault has confirmed that this seriously hot hatch will be hitting the roads as a production model. The announcement came in a rather unconventional way – as an "Easter egg" at the end of the fourth episode of "Anatomy of a Comeback," a documentary series about Renault's recent resurgence.
The Renault 5 Turbo 3E takes inspiration from its iconic predecessors, the Renault 5 Turbo and Turbo 2 from the 1980s, but with a modern, all-electric twist. While it pays homage to the past with its retro-futuristic design and motorsport-inspired livery, it's packed with the latest technology. The modern version of the classic is powered by two powerful electric motors that deliver a combined output of over 500 bhp. With this much power in a rather compact package, we should expect exhilarating performance, and Renault promises a 0 to 62 mph time of just 3.5 seconds.
The car's design is a delightful blend of old and new. The charging socket, cleverly integrated into one of the rear air intakes, is a nod to the styling of the original "Turbo." The use of a carbon superstructure reduces weight and improves rigidity, crucial for a car that promises to be a true "pocket rocket." And yes, just like its legendary ancestor, the Renault 5 Turbo 3E will be rear-wheel drive.
While the documentary provides a glimpse of this exciting new model, Renault is keeping some details close to its chest. Pricing, battery capacity, and range remain under wraps for now, but the company has promised an array of exclusive events in 2025 that will further unveil the Renault 5 Turbo 3E.
The reveal of the Renault 5 Turbo 3E in a documentary might seem unusual, but it plays well into the car's unique character and the story behind its creation. It's a story of heritage, innovation, and a company's determination to reclaim its position in the automotive world. With the Renault 5 Turbo 3E, Renault is as much reviving a legend as it is electrifying it for a new generation.

Should've let the legendary R5T rest in peace instead of bringing it back in this horrible Frankenstein form. The only reason they decided to ruin the nameplate by releasing a "Turbo" EV that kills everything that was fun with the orig...

I wish we would get these in Canada. We just get Tesla's and terrible Vinfast cars. No fun hot hatchbacks or any cool designs. Just boring stuff.
