Skoda is moving for the very first time into the large EV market with its upcoming seven-seat SUV. Building on a record-breaking financial year, the Czech automaker has released teaser images of this new model. This vehicle, expected to arrive in 2026, will take on the likes of the Kia EV9 and Hyundai Ioniq 9.

The new Skoda SUV is based on the same design language first seen in the 2022 Vision 7S concept, featuring the "Modern Solid" aesthetic. Specific details remain under wraps, but the teaser images suggest a design similar to a larger version of the recently revealed Epiq. The SUV is expected to be around 192.9 inches in length, making it significantly larger than the five-seat Enyaq.

Skoda will use the tried and tested Volkswagen MEB platform for this new EV. Although somewhat already outdated, this technology allows for both single and dual-motor configurations. This should allow Skoda to offer various powertrain options, and keep the entry-level price competitive. The single-motor, rear-wheel-drive configuration, similar to the Kia EV9's base model, will likely be the most popular option. The Vision 7S concept hinted at a WLTP range of 373 miles - a promising number that will surely attract many EV buyers.

Teaser images offer the first look at the modern and robust-looking exterior. The T-shaped LED headlights and taillights, together with the overall silhouette, suggest a blend of practicality and contemporary styling. The full side profile and grille details are yet to be revealed, but the SUV's proportions tell us that we are looking at a spacious interior.

Skoda's decision to enter the large electric SUV market comes at a time of significant growth for the company. With 936,600 vehicles delivered in 2024, a 6.9% increase from the previous year, the launch of this flagship EV could push Skoda past the million-unit sales mark.
