A special pass lets you skip the line for the new electric Renault Twingo

In the ever-competitive world of electric cars, getting a new model before your neighbor is becoming a modern status symbol. Renault seems to understand this perfectly. The French automaker is bringing back its iconic Twingo city car as an all-electric model, and weeks before the Renault Twingo E-Tech electric even has its official debut on November 6, the company is launching the "Twingo R Pass," a program that essentially works as a skip-the-line ticket for early adopters.

The Twingo R Pass gives members priority access to place their orders for the new Twingo E-Tech electric. This means they will be at the front of the line when production starts, ensuring they are among the first to receive their cars when they go on sale in 2026.

Renault is staggering the launch of the Pass across Europe, starting in Italy on October 8 and expanding to countries like Germany, Spain, the UK, and France throughout the month in a clever marketing campaign designed to build excitement for an EV that promises to be both stylish and affordable.

The car at the center of all of this is a modern interpretation of a European classic. The original 1993 Twingo was famous for its quirky, one-box design and surprisingly spacious interior. Renault is leaning heavily into that nostalgia for this new electric version.

Based on teaser images, the Twingo E-Tech electric will feature the same friendly, "smiling" face, with round full-LED headlights and a cheerful grille. The overall shape promises a small exterior footprint perfect for city driving, while keeping the "small on the outside, big on the inside" philosophy of its predecessor. Details like half-moon taillights and a rounded rear window are clear nods to the car that won hearts decades ago.

The exterior pays homage to the past, but the interior is designed for the modern driver. A prototype shown earlier this year revealed a cabin focused on space, light, and technology. A large, rounded glass roof will likely make the small car feel airy and open.

Dominating the dashboard are a 7-inch digital driver display and a 10.1-inch central touchscreen for media and navigation. Yet, even here, there are playful winks to the original, like a red hazard light button sitting in a translucent bubble. Renault has also focused on practical, smart features, including clever storage spots and a rear bench seat that can slide and fold to prioritize either passenger legroom or cargo space.

Renault developed the new Twingo in just two years with a goal to sell it for under $23,000. In a market where the high cost of electric cars is a big barrier for many buyers, a sub-$23k EV from a major manufacturer could be a winner. The Twingo is built on the company's AmpR Small platform, which is designed specifically for compact and affordable electric cars.
