Xiaomi CEO personally delivers first YU7 GT vehicles to buyers
Chinese electronics giant turned auto manufacturer celebrated a major milestone on May 29, 2026. Xiaomi founder and CEO Lei Jun, together with brand ambassador and actress Shu Qi, delivered the very first six units of the company's new high-performance electric SUV to excited customers.
The event took place during a live internet broadcast in China and marked the official start of customer deliveries for the new Xiaomi YU7 GT. Five customers picked up their vehicles in a new Cherry Red paint finish, while one selected a black color option. Both hosts chatted with each individual buyer and posed for group photographs on the broadcast stage.
Following the live event, Lei Jun provided specific details regarding the backgrounds of the first buyers. The early customer group includes a diverse mix of working professionals, such as bank employees, university personnel, internet marketing professionals, independent entrepreneurs, and top corporate managers. Looking at the wider buyer demographics for the overall model line, company statistics reveal that women make up over 30% of all owners. Interestingly, more than half of the people who buy Xiaomi vehicles are active Apple ecosystem users rather than owners of Xiaomi mobile devices.
The new YU7 GT sits at the very top of the brand's premium lineup. Xiaomi set the entry-level price for the base configuration at RMB 389,900, which converts to approximately $57,510. For consumers who want the absolute peak options and a fully equipped model, the price goes up to RMB 429,900, or about $63,410. These prices put Xiaomi's latest premium model directly against luxury foreign and domestic competitors.
The YU7 GT measures exactly 197.4 inches in length, 79 inches in width, and 62.9 inches in height, giving the model a long-hood proportion and a low, ground-hugging stance. The overall footprint provides a spacious cabin environment for passengers while maintaining the sharp visual design characteristics of a modern SUV.
The development team focused on a seemingly tricky task - balancing daily usability with track-ready capabilities. The YU7 GT established a new lap record for the SUV vehicle class at the Nürburgring racetrack in Germany. Unlike the track-focused SU7 Ultra sedan model that came before it, engineers designed the new crossover primarily to handle everyday city commutes. To deliver a smooth ride on regular streets, the vehicle uses an active air suspension system, upgraded interior materials, and a variety of luxury comfort options.
The vehicle has a dual-motor all-wheel-drive powertrain layout that generates a peak output of 990 horsepower. This level of power enables the family hauler to accelerate from a standstill to 62 mph in 2.92 seconds. For drivers who can access closed testing tracks or unrestricted roads, the EV can continue accelerating until it hits an electronically restricted top speed of 186 mph.
Slowing down a heavy vehicle with nearly one thousand horsepower requires motorsport-grade braking systems. To ensure optimal stopping power, Xiaomi fitted the new GT with carbon-ceramic brake discs and premium Akebono brake calipers. The mechanical arrangement features six-piston brake calipers at the front wheels and four-piston calipers at the rear wheels, allowing the crossover to come to a complete stop from 62 mph in a short distance of 107.9 ft.
Energy management relies on a high-capacity 101.7 kWh ternary lithium-nickel-manganese-cobalt battery pack. This battery choice gives the vehicle a driving range of up to 438 miles on a full charge, measured under the standard China Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle (CLTC) system. To help owners save time during public charging stops, the model features an advanced 897V silicon carbide high-voltage electrical platform that helps the crossover to add 354 miles of driving range in 15 minutes of DC fast charging.
The arrival of this top-end model comes during a shifting market landscape for the manufacturer's automotive division. Retail statistics from the China EV DataTracker indicate that the company delivered 9,876 units of the standard YU7 SUV variant to domestic buyers during the month of April - that's a month-on-month sales drop of 27.2%. The launch of the premium high-performance version is a strategic push to boost market enthusiasm, drive higher showroom traffic, and increase total sales numbers.
