The 2024 Porsche Macan is off to a momentous start, with the general feedback from the potential buyers being very positive. Porsche aficionados as well as newcomers to the brand are apparently lining up to snatch up the first electric SUV from the German brand.

Officially unveiled only last week, the all-new and all-electric Porsche Macan makes some serious promises. According to the early reviews, the Macan delivers on the performance side of things. Recent road tests reveal that the second generation Macan delivers on the range as well, shaping us as an overall very accomplished EV.

So, if you are sold on and have decided to go ahead and take the plunge - how long will you have to wait to have a brand-new Macan sitting in your driveway? We took a tour of Leipzig factory where the Macan EV will be built and a Porsche’s spokesperson revealed that the company targets production of up to 20,000 units by the end of this year. In 2025, providing the ramp-up goes off without a hitch, the company expects to manufacture between 40,000 and 60,000 units.

Surprisingly, there is a lot of manual labor involved - as many as 60 hours will go into the production of every Macan, depending on optional equipment. The new Macan is the first electric vehicle to be made at the Leipzig plant since the Taycan is manufactured in Stuttgart. All that translates to anything between 6 and 8 months waiting list at the current level of orders. Once the Macan debuts in China this coming April, the waiting times may slip even further.

It’s interesting to note that while the gas-powered Macan of the first generation won’t be sold in Europe anymore, it will remain available in the US among a few other global markets. This is all to do with the new cybersecurity law coming into force this July in Europe. All auto manufacturers have to comply, which in the case of the original Macan would mean a complete redesign of its electrical architecture. The company made a decision that the electric Macan will be the only model on sale in Europe since it is simply not financially feasible to redesign the 1st generation model.

We have a full price breakdown of the electric Macan prices across various markets right here. Depending on where you shopping from, you can have a bare-bones entry-level model for as little as $80,450 but if you live in one of those more expensive locations, fully specced Macan Turbo can set you back as much as $200,000.
