Porsche Taycan Turbo GT arrives to redefine EV performance

Porsche introduced the new Taycan Turbo GT today andlongside its track-focused sibling, the Taycan Turbo GT with Weissach package. These models take the already blistering performance of the Taycan Turbo S to the next level, promising to challenge the limits of EV technology.

The Taycan Turbo GT is capable of producing peak power outputs of over 815 kW. A cutting-edge silicon carbide pulse inverter pushes electrons to the upgraded rear-axle motor, translating to relentless torque and lightning-fast acceleration. Launch Control temporarily unleashes a brief torrent of overboost power, resulting in a jaw-dropping 0 mph sprint in 2.3 seconds (2.2 seconds with the Weissach package) and even if the output drops after that you still get to 124 mph in under 7 seconds.

The power numbers are a bit tricky - the standard output for both Taycan Turbo GT models is 580 kW or nearly 778 hp. With the optional Launch Control, this output goes up to 760 kW although only for a short time. If that’s enough, there’s an Overboost function which adds another 55 kW for a total of 815 kW or nearly 1,093 hp - although that’s more like an espresso shot, it only lasts two seconds.

Where these Taycan models truly excel is in carving corners. Porsche's meticulous chassis and suspension tuning, coupled with grippy performance tires and lightweight components, ensure that agility matches the straight-line thrust.

Porsche's development driver Lars Kern took the new car for a spin, shattering records at two legendary tracks in the process. First, he tackled the unforgiving Nurburgring Nordschleife, setting a new class record of 7:07.55. This time shaved an astounding 26 seconds off his previous best in a Taycan Turbo S and earned the Turbo GT the title of fastest four-door at the Ring, regardless of how it's powered. Then, he blitzed Laguna Seca with a 1:27.87 lap in the Taycan Turbo GT with Weissach package, making it the fastest road-legal EV ever to lap the Californian circuit.

"This isn't just about raw power," explains Kevin Giek, Model Line Vice President. "The Taycan's track prowess comes from a perfectly tuned package. Every system, from acceleration and braking to its cornering grip and aerodynamic stability, works harmoniously."

Underneath the stylish exterior, the Taycan Turbo GT models boast an arsenal of performance upgrades. Porsche's Active Ride suspension, with dedicated GT-specific tuning, ensures tenacious grip and poise even in high-speed corners. Massive ceramic brakes provide incredible stopping power. Supportive carbon fiber full bucket seats that we have already seen in the 911 RS, ensure drivers stay firmly planted during aggressive driving maneuvers.

The Taycan Turbo GT with Weissach package strips away any pretense of luxury cruising. It sheds weight with carbon fiber trim, the removal of rear seats, and reduced sound insulation. A fixed rear wing and aerodynamic enhancements further boost its track readiness. These changes transform it into a laser-focused, uncompromising track weapon.

The Porsche Taycan Turbo GT duo doesn't just redefine the boundaries of EV performance; they offer a glimpse into a future where driving enthusiasts don't have to mourn the loss of the internal combustion engine. They prove that the era of electric performance has arrived, and it's more exhilarating than ever. Although that proof comes at a price - the Taycan Turbo GT starts just under $232,000 in the US (€240,000 in Europe). There’s some good news though - the Weissach package is a “no cost” option making Porsche’s first electric track tool an attractive choice for committed weekend warriors.

"not just raw power" should target rimac nevera which has the same laptime with twice the power. nevera is a 2 seated sports car supposed to excel on track. I expect that giant wing will come with Weissach package only. regular family...

One would think Porsche, existing almost 100 years as a brand, would be enough for you to notice ... it's kinda their moto the whole time.

"Not about raw power" They had to throw shade to Tesla and the Chinese brands did they?
