Volkswagen unveils its most powerful wagon yet - the ID.7 GTX Tourer
Volkswagen's ID.7 Tourer is not even being delivered yet, and it already got an exciting update. The Volkswagen ID.7 GTX Tourer is a beastly electric wagon coming to replace the legendary Golf R wagon as the most potent long-roof model in the German manufacturer's lineup.
The ID.7 GTX Tourer features dual-motor, all-wheel-drive setup pumping out an impressive 335 combined horsepower. The rear motor delivers the bulk of those with 282 horsepower, while the front motor adds a 107 horsepower boost. This system delivers power on demand, with the front motor ready to engage instantaneously for those moments when you need an extra burst of acceleration or the rear wheels slip. And if you think you've seen those performance figures - you'd be absolutely right. VW ID.Buzz GTX and Cupra Tavascan VZ share the same powertrain.
Volkswagen has also increased the towing capacity of the ID.7 GTX Tourer to a hefty 3,086 lb, way above the 2,204 lb limit of the single-motor, rear-wheel-drive version of the ID.7 Tourer. And while Volkswagen fitted the GTX with the larger 86 kilowatt-hour battery as standard, expect a slightly shorter range compared to its non-GTX counterpart. On the bright side, DC fast charging at speeds of up to 200 kilowatts means a 10 to 80% charge in under half an hour.
While Volkswagen hasn't released official performance figures yet, this electric powerhouse should rocket from 0 to 62 mph in under six seconds. Those numbers would make it a force to be reconed with in the performance wagons realm. The ID.7 GTX Tourer looks the part too, with aggressive bumpers, contrasting glossy black accents, and either standard 20-inch or optional 21-inch wheels.
Inside, the cabin gets red accents and GTX logos on the seats and steering wheel. Beyond that the ID.7 GTX Tourer boasts the same roomy interior and ample cargo capacity as the standard ID.7 Tourer - 21.4 ft³ with the rear seats up, expanding to a generous 60.5 ft³ with the seats folded down. Like the regular model, you can also add an optional panoramic sunroof that transforms from opaque to transparent at the touch of a button.
Unfortunately for US buyers, just as it is the case with the new ID.3 GTX, Volkswagen currently has no plans to bring this head-turning wagon stateside. The ID.7 GTX Tourer is expected to hit the European showrooms this spring.
