Rivian lays off employees from its battery department

Job cuts are an unfortunate reality for companies from different industries all around the world and Rivian is the latest one to let go some of its employees. Reportedly, 20 people from its battery department are no longer in a job.

Supposedly, Rivian is cutting down on costs in order to secure enough cash for its next-generation R2 platform. One of the job cuts was Victor Prajapti, a former Tesla senior manager. This decision signals Rivian's change of heart when it comes to its in-house battery production. Right now, the company is sourcing its batteries from Samsung SDI.

On the other hand, Rivian's spokesperson said the lay offs impact less than 8% of the battery team, so a Rivian battery plant is still on the cards. We'll see how this develops in the following months.
