Tesla Cybertruck is America's best selling electric pickup truck

Tesla's Cybertruck has been incredibly polarizing ever since its announcement all the way back in 2019, and it got even more so once it finally reached the streets. And yet, despite its unique looks - or, perhaps, thanks to them - this EV seems to have been a real success.

Tesla now claims that the Cybertruck was America's best selling electric pickup truck in 2024. That means it's sold more units than Ford's F-150 Lightning, which is impressive for a pickup truck that looks like something from another planet (while the F-150 Lightning pretty much keeps the shape and overall looks that have worked so far).

That's quite a feat, especially considering the fact that the F-150 series Fords have been America's best selling pickup trucks each year for decades. But of course, Tesla is only comparing the Cybertruck's sales to the F-150 Lightning, hence why it won.

Whether this situation will continue in 2025 is anyone's guess. Demand for the Cybertruck seems to have been waning recently, with Tesla even pausing production for a few days back in December. Perhaps more international availability would help keep the numbers high, but it's hard to imagine the Cybertruck becoming road legal in Europe and the launch in China hasn't happened yet.

Not true: https://www.caranddriver.com/news/g63396028/bestselling-evs-2024/ Why Tesla doesn't want to release the real numbers?
