The $3.5 million Aspark Owl Roadster defines open-top electric extremity

Traditional supercar benchmarks once held by Italian and German machines are under attack from a new breed of automotive titan: the electric hypercar. Models like the Yangwang U9, Lotus Evija, Pininfarina Battista, and Rimac Nevera have established this completely new category that pushes speed and power to unimaginable limits.

Now, stepping into this elite and absurdly fast club is a contender from the Land of the Rising Sun: the Aspark Owl Roadster. This Japanese creation is an exclusive, open-top thunderbolt proving yet again that high-end EVs can stand alone at the pinnacle of automotive engineering.

The Aspark Owl Roadster's performance figures sound more like science fiction than road-legal reality. The car's fully electric powertrain has four independent electric motors, which combine to deliver 1,953 horsepower and 1,416 lb-ft of instantly available torque.

Getting from a standstill to 62 mph takes only 1.78 seconds. If you keep your foot down, the Owl flies past 186 mph in 9.74 seconds. This breathtaking acceleration means the Roadster can match almost any other road-legal vehicle on the planet in a sprint. It is a fraction quicker than Rimac Nevera to 62 mph, but it hangs back nearly half a second in the 0 to 186 mph sprint. Still, chopping off the roof was a clever decision; now the Owl is the fastest electric roadster in the world since its only competition is the MG Cyberster. That's of course if we completely ignore the one-off Pininfarina Barchetta B95.

While the engineers responsible for the Owl claim a theoretical top speed of 257 mph, the car is electronically limited to 217 mph for normal road use. Even at that limited speed, the driver is traveling fast enough to blur the scenery completely. The team at Aspark, perhaps with a dash of bravado, decided to ignore the existence of the 3,000-horsepower Yangwang U9 Xtreme when calling their creation the fastest EV. And while the Rimac Nevera R holds a higher official top speed record (268 mph), the Owl Roadster's focus remains on delivering extreme acceleration with the added thrill of infinite headroom.

Underneath the low-slung bodywork, the Aspark Owl uses the same advanced blueprint as its closed-roof sibling. The chassis relies on a carbon monocoque structure, keeping the vehicle incredibly light and rigid. Despite carrying a sizable 69.0-kWh battery pack, the entire Roadster weighs in at a relatively modest 4,189 lb.

The Owl uses a specialized double-wishbone suspension system that allows the driver to adjust the ride height between 3.15 inches and 6.3 inches, tailoring the car for track aggression or comfortable cruising. For stopping power, the Roadster uses carbon-ceramic brakes paired with massive 10-piston calipers in the front - a necessary setup to halt nearly 2,000 horsepower.

Stability at speed is managed by active aerodynamics, including an adjustable rear wing. The vehicle also offers multiple driving modes, from a cautious Snow Mode to more aggressive settings focused purely on performance. But the real attraction is the open roof. Aspark promises this design offers an experience where the driver becomes "one with the road," heightening the sensation of sound, vibration, and wind, proving that the silent operation of electric cars does not mean a quiet driving experience.

Naturally, getting your hands on this level of speed and rarity requires an almost unbelievable amount of cash. The Aspark Owl Roadster's price remains officially confidential, but estimates place the base cost well above $3.5 million, making it one of the most expensive EVs ever conceived.

Aspark plans to produce only about 20 units of the Roadster, cementing its place as an instant collector's item that will only ever be seen by a handful of the world's most passionate and affluent EV enthusiasts. For those who believe speed should come with a stiff price and an open sky, the Aspark Owl Roadster is ready to add a spark to their collection…
