The Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale returns with a breath-taking electric version

Max McDee, 31 August 2023

If you're a car enthusiast, the name Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale probably sends shivers down your spine. The original 33 Stradale, a mid-engined Italian masterpiece, was a rare gem produced in the late 1960s. Only 18 were ever made, making it a unicorn in the automotive world. Fast forward to 2023, and Alfa Romeo has decided to resurrect this legend. Unfortunately, if you were hoping to get one for yourself - we have some bad news. All 33 units have already been sold. Yep - thirty-three. Not 330, not 3,300. Just 33.

The Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale returns and it's the electric version that steals the show

While the new 33 Stradale comes with a twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 engine that churns out over 620 horsepower, we should not dwell on the gasoline unit too much. That’s because it's the electric version that's the real showstopper here. This electric variant boasts over 750 horsepower and can travel up to 280 miles on a single charge, according to the WLTP cycle. While Alfa Romeo is being coy about whether it's using a tri-motor setup like Maserati's equally powerful GranTurismo Folgore (suspicious?), the numbers speak for themselves.

What's more, the electric 33 Stradale can go from 0 to 62 mph in less than three seconds and has a top speed of 207 mph. So, if you're one of those people who still think electric cars are just glorified golf carts, it's time to rethink that stereotype. This electric supercar is not playing around.

The body of this modern-day marvel is handcrafted by the artisans at Carrozzeria Touring Superleggera. Each car is a "unique and unrepeatable work of art," according to Alfa Romeo. And if you're into personalization, you can even choose your own custom eight-digit VIN number. How's that for exclusivity?

The interior comes in two themes: Tributo and Alfa Corse. The former pays homage to the classic car, while the latter is sportier. The cockpit is a blend of leather, carbon fiber, aluminum, and Alcantara. There's no clutter on the steering wheel; Alfa Romeo wants you to focus on what's really important - driving.

The Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale returns and it's the electric version that steals the show

The original 33 Stradale was one of the first production vehicles to feature dihedral, or "butterfly," doors. The new version continues this tradition, adding a touch of drama every time you enter or exit the vehicle.

The modern 33 Stradale comes with Brembo carbon-ceramic discs and a brake-by-wire setup, well up to the job of stopping this $1 million piece of art from the unexpected. The suspension consists of a double-arm configuration with active dampers and a front-axle lift system. So not only does this car look good, but it also has all the tech to back its good looks up.

The revival of the Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale is a big deal. No, scratch that - it’s a huge deal. While the gasoline version is nothing to scoff at, it's the electric variant that's capturing imaginations. With its impressive horsepower, range, and top speed, this isn't just a car; it's a statement. A statement that electric Alfa Romeo wants the top spot. While this is a limited run for only the luckiest automotive fans out there, it’s a preview of technology that we’ll see in the next Giulia Quadrifoglio - and that will be a real stunner, both in the looks and performance departments.

It looks like a Mclaren P1 from the front, a Ford GT from the back, but definitely catches the eye with the perfect Italian curves
