Volkswagen starts production of the ID.7, order books open later this month in Germany

Vlad, 22 August 2023

Volkswagen unveiled the ID.7 back in April, and today production has officially started at the company's plant in Emden, Germany, which employs around 8,000 people and will build the EV exclusively for the European and North American markets. As usual with these things, production will slowly ramp up in time from this point forward.

Volkswagen promises to start taking orders for the ID.7 in Germany before the end of this month. It also said the car would become available in its home country this autumn.

The ID.7 is one of ten new EVs that Volkswagen is committed to launch between this year and 2026. By 2033 at the latest, the company will only produce EVs in Europe. The ID.7 is marketed to arrive with 435 miles of range on one charge, but most specs haven't been outed officially yet. Now that we're close to orders starting, maybe it's time for a full list?

While we wait for that, all we can give you are specs based on Chinese certifications. A single-motor variant with rear wheel drive will have 150 kW, a dual-motor option adds an 80 kW front motor for a total of 230 kW, and the battery capacity could be 86 kWh.
