$15,000 Kia EV2 allegedly caught on video on the streets of Korea

Truly affordable EVs are hard, if not impossible, to come by. Not only are there not many of them available right now, but even the future doesn't look great, with only a few entrants on the way, and one of those may not be making it - Tesla's $25,000 Model 2 has apparently been put on the back burner.

On the other hand, Kia wants to get into the affordable EV market, now that it's gained some experience in the EV space with the EV6 and EV9. It recently launched the EV5 with a great price around $20,000, in China at least, but the company is planning an even cheaper model - the EV2. This is allegedly the car you can see wearing heavy-duty camouflage on the streets of Korea in the short video below.

The EV2, if that's what we're looking at here, has a pretty recognizable boxy SUV shape even under all that camo, and as such it might seem like it's a tiny EV9 when it launches (or an even smaller EV5). The price point currently rumored in Korea for the car is around $15,000 at the current exchange rates, which would make it one of the cheapest EVs ever.

Of course, it's still a long way from even becoming official, not to mention on sale or with deliveries started. It's also not clear how pricing will vary across markets - don't expect a $15,000 or thereabouts price tag in the EU, for example - taxes will make it higher for sure. But the market is in dire need of more competition at such price points, so we hope the EV2 is actually real, and will have that sort of price, and will arrive sooner, rather than later.
