BMW i5 receives top safety scores in Europe, America, and Korea

Vlad, 19 January 2024

BMW's new i5 has been setting new standards when it comes to vehicle safety, as proven by independent testing institutes on three continents. In the well known Euro NCAP testing, the i5 received the highest rating - five stars.

BMW says the "extensive standard equipment with safety-relevant driver assistance systems" contributed a lot to that rating. Furthermore, BMW's driver assistance systems "impressed Euro NCAP safety experts" with their range of functions and reliability.

Across the pond in the US, the US Insurance Institute for Highway Safety also gave the i5 its best rating - "Top Safety Pick+". Especially helpful in achieving this was the car's standard assistance system for preventing frontal accidents, in combination with the lighting system.

In the various collision tests performed, the i5 proved that "comprehensive protection against injuries is always guaranteed regardless of the size and sitting position of the occupants".

Finally, in Korea, the i5 received the "Safest Car of the Year" award from KNCAP. That means it was the vehicle which scored the highest number of KNCAP points in 2023, out of all of those that were tested. The Korean testers were particularly impressed by the performance of the i5's passive safety systems, and its driver assistance systems - both of these receiving maximum or almost maximum possible ratings.

I was just researching the i5 and in the US, NHTSA has not yet rated it, but has issued two recall orders for it.
