Chery unveils Exeed Sterra ET SUV in EV and EREV versions

Max McDee, 10 May 2024

Chery's upscale Exeed brand unveiled its versatile Sterra ET SUV in China. The ET enters the busiest EV market in the world with a choice between a battery electric model or an extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) for those seeking the comfort of extra gasoline-powered miles. This new SUV is the second model in Exeed's cutting-edge Sterra lineup and promises to bring serious competition to premium EV rivals.

The Sterra ET EREV has a starting price of just RMB 189,800 (approximately $26,280), making it a tempting choice for buyers wanting extra distance without breaking the bank. The BEV model starts at a slightly higher RMB 229,800 ($31,800) but provides more battery options for different needs. Either version can bolt from zero to 62 mph in 7.8 seconds, courtesy of the 195 kW electric motor.

The EREV variants feature a 32 kWh battery with a CLTC-rated range of 124 miles on pure electricity, but a gasoline generator expands that range to a whopping 943 miles when the tank is full. The BEV version packs a 77 kWh battery, with a maximum CLTC-rated range of 472 miles, and the option to upgrade to a 100 kWh beast for extra adventuring.

Compared to its primary EREV competitor, the Li L6, the Sterra ET is the larger SUV. It's both longer and wider, but slightly lower, standing at 195.1 inches x 77.8 inches x 66.9 inches.

The Sterra ET BEV version can charge from 30% to 80% in lightning-fast 9 minutes.

Initial sales figures are promising: within 18 hours of hitting the market, an impressive 18,397 orders were placed for the Sterra ET, with deliveries starting immediately.

The Sterra ET follows the December 2023 launch of the Exeed Sterra ES sedan, which debuted both standard 400V and high-voltage 800V electric versions. This range of options indicates Exeed's commitment to providing a diverse and technologically advanced electric vehicle lineup.
