XPeng is looking to make a big splash with its latest offering, the G7 SUV. With a sleek design, advanced technology, and a competitive price tag, the G7 will take directly on the Tesla Model Y. Many tried before, but the Model Y still stands as the undisputed king of electric SUVs. For now.

The first photo of an undisguised XPeng G7 surfaced on the net, offering us a glimpse of what to expect from the newcomer. The G7 has a modern and aerodynamic design, featuring hidden door handles and curved surfaces to minimize drag. The G7's design language is similar to that of the recently launched P7+ sedan, but with distinct rear tail lights that extend further into the tailgate.

The G7 is powered by a 218 kW electric motor and is expected to offer two different LFP battery pack options, both supplied by CALB. The G7 will also feature XPeng's Hawk AI system, a vision-based self-driving technology that debuted on the P7+. This system is gradually being rolled out across XPeng's lineup, replacing the more expensive Lidar-based systems.

The G7 measures 192.6 inches in length, 75.8 inches in width, and 65.2 inches in height, with a wheelbase of 113.8 inches. This makes it slightly larger than the G9, making it XPeng's largest SUV to date. The G7's interior layout is expected to mirror that of the P7+, with a focus on minimalist design and advanced technology.

The pricing hasn't yet been confirmed, but estimates put the G7 in an RMB 250,000 ($34,350) starting zone. Together with the G7's size and features, this pricing strategy makes it a strong challenger to the Tesla Model Y. At the same time, it also raises questions about the future of the current G9, another five-seater SUV.

XPeng is reportedly planning to launch a flagship six-seater SUV later this year, codenamed G01. With the G7 and G01, XPeng is demonstrating its ambition to become a major player in the electric car industry. Will it succeed? It certainly has an attractive portfolio and financial backing - the rest will depend on customers.
