Mercedes GLC EV gets a single screen that stretches across the entire dashboard

Mercedes-Benz pulled back the curtain on the interior of its electric GLC with a stunning, and slightly intimidating, screen that redefines the driver's environment.
Mercedes has revealed that its new electric GLC will feature a next-generation MBUX Hyperscreen. While the name might sound familiar to fans of the brand's other EVs, this one comes with a big update. Previous Hyperscreens, like the one found in the EQS sedan, were actually three separate screens cleverly hidden under a single pane of glass to create the illusion of one unit.

The new GLC EV does away with the illusion. It has a true, single-piece display measuring a massive 39.1 inches from one side of the dashboard to the other. This makes it the largest single display Mercedes has ever installed in a production vehicle.
This enormous digital canvas is powered by advanced backlighting technology using 1,000 LEDs, which Mercedes says will deliver brilliant colors and exceptional sharpness. The immediate question for many drivers, however, is about distraction. Staring at what amounts to a digital billboard while trying to navigate traffic can be a genuine concern.

Mercedes engineers have already considered this. The system includes a feature called "intelligent zone dimming," which can selectively darken or dim parts of the screen. This allows information like speed and navigation to remain visible to the driver, and entertainment or passenger-side widgets to fade into the background - a high-tech solution to a very modern problem.
The rest of the cabin is a thoughtful blend of technology and user-friendly design. Below the massive screen, a pair of central air vents neatly separates the display from the center console. Housed in the upper part of that console are two wireless smartphone charging pads, providing convenient power for both the driver and front passenger.

Future GLC drivers who dislike hunting through menus for basic functions will be pleased to find a slim row of physical buttons sitting just below the chargers. This strip includes a tactile volume dial, a welcome feature supplemented by a second volume control on the steering wheel.
The cabin's ambient lighting system offers different colors and "moods," but the lighting also acts as a notification system. For instance, if you adjust the climate control temperature using the digital slider on the screen, the main ambient light strip and the illumination within the air vents will briefly change color to confirm the command has been received. This provides instant, intuitive feedback without requiring the driver to look away from the road.

The newest member of the Mercedes family of electric cars, officially named the GLC 400 4Matic with EQ Technology, will make its full public debut at the IAA Mobility 2025 auto show in Munich on September 7. Mercedes has already shown a teaser of the vehicle's bold exterior, with its unique light-up front grille. The company also released an impressive charging specification for the new GLC - it can accept charging speeds of over 320 kW, and add approximately 162 miles of range in just 10 minutes.
