Ford Capri EV will be unveiled on July 10

Vlad, 08 July 2024

Ford is adding a second EV to its European roster this week - specifically on Wednesday, July 10. Following the Explorer, the new model will revive the Capri name, used on a fastback coupe that Ford produced from 1968 to 1986.

In the teaser post on X below, that is a classic Capri - and, spoiler alert, you can't charge it because it's not an EV. But the Capri launching this week is an EV, and that's the whole point of the joke.

A few weeks ago, Ford ran a guerilla marketing campaign in a bunch of print publications in the UK, allegedly for a company called "Comeback Cars". Readers were urged to text the phrase "comeback" to a number via WhatsApp.

If you did go through all that, what you got was an automated conversation with a bot that shared the teaser images you can see above and below this paragraph.

They show the upcoming car's headlight and taillight design, as is pretty obvious. Like the Explorer EV, the Capri will be using VW's MEB platform, and thus will come with a choice of three powertrains (with 168 hp, 282 hp, and 335 hp) and two battery sizes - 52 kWh and 79 kWh.

The Capri EV is going to be built at Ford's plant in Cologne, Germany, where it stopped making the Fiesta to make room for more EVs just like this one.
