BYD Qin L's EV version spotted in the wild

Ro, 28 January 2025

BYD's Qin L is a PHEV that's expected to appear as a fully electric vehicle in China in the next few months. The EV version seems identical to the original Qin L and is likely based on the already-known e-platform 3.0 Evo used for many of the Ocean models in BYD's portfolio.

An earlier leak coming from the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology reveals some of the car's specs. We can expect two battery configurations and drivetrains. One will be equipped with a larger battery and likely BYD's 160 kW electric motor, while the lower-specced variant will settle for a smaller cell and a 110 kW motor.

We also know that the batteries will be based on the lithium iron phosphate chemistry used for the so-called blade battery design. This is going to be the second-generation blade battery.

We can expect some minor differences in dimensions. The EV version is going to be 4.33 inches shorter, 0.79 inches narrower, but with a 1.18 inches longer wheelbase. The listed curb weight is either 3,682 lb or 3,968 lb, depending on the battery version.
