Lucid Air Grand Touring range test and cabin noise

Lucid is an electric vehicle startup that quickly gathered attention with its luxury EVs with a taste of speed. The Lucid Air is its hero model - a sedan with a sleek design, great power and extravagant interior, turning it into one of the most capable options in its segment.

Today, we are testing how efficient the Lucid Air Grand Touring is in the real world. We'll also throw in our cabin noise measurements.

The Lucid Air Grand Touring we have at our disposal today is the mid-range version in the Air’s lineup. It boasts 819 hp through an AWD system with two electric motors. However, the main concern of this article is range and it comes thanks to the huge 112 kWh battery.

A dedicated review is coming soon, but let’s focus on how long the Lucid Air Grand Touring can go, before revealing how well it does it. We drove our test routes, doing the same track both ways at constant speeds at the same place as with every other car we test. The ambient temperature while testing the Lucid Air Grand Touring was 55°F - slight colder than ideal.
At our lowest testing speed of 37 mph the Lucid Air Grand Touring shines with fine efficiency for its size, but more importantly the giant battery accounts for 620 miles of range on a single charge. Of course, that number will never be reached in the real world as driving at 37 mph for nearly 17 hours is not something that happens to anyone.
Once we move on to the next speed of 56 mph the aerodynamic shape starts working its magic and the consumption barely increases. This signifies just how well suited the Air Grand Touring is for long drives and shows that efficiency and power don’t necessarily exclude each other.
Even at the highest testing speed of 81 mph the Air Grand Touring consumes a bit more than the Model S variant with a far smaller battery (and thus far lighter). Unsurprisingly then it delivers a fantastic result. This is a typical highway speed for most countries around the world and a range of over 311 miles must be way more than most drivers would be willing to do without stopping.
Moving on to the cabin noise, our excellent subjective feeling is backed up by the data that we measured. The interior is quiet and peaceful. At low speeds there is almost no ambient noise coming inside. At highway speeds and above some wind and tire noise makes its way into the cabin, but it isn’t intrusive in any way.
What makes the experience inside even better is the build quality, which is splendid and the material choice throughout the cabin is worthy of a luxurious limousine. There are no creaks and rattles and every surface feels solid to touch. Such things are to be expected in a luxurious sedan and we are glad Lucid didn’t stray far from the norms, but rather embraced them and improved them.
Combining the efficient powertrain with an aerodynamic shape and a huge battery pack has turned the Lucid Air Grand Touring into an appealing option in a world. The model performs well for its class and outshines established brands in the segment like Mercedes and BMW by adding a huge battery and combining it with great efficiency, while maintaining exceptional performance numbers.
The Lucid Air Grand Touring should be on your list of vehicles to consider if you’re aiming towards achieving the greatest range on a single charge, but its strengths go far beyond that. Stay tuned for our detailed review of the Lucid Air Grand Touring!
In the meantime you can use the widget below to find out the Lucid Air Grand Touring’s range in every combination of speed and temperature you might need. We've used our real-world tests and a complex model to provide an estimate that should be as close to the actual performance as possible.
