StoreDot picks Eve Energy to manufacture its Extreme Fast Charging batteries

You know how the saying goes: the next big advancement in battery technology is always just around the corner. One of the companies working on developing improved batteries for EVs is StoreDot, and today it's announcing that it now has a manufacturing partner for its cells, which it dubs "Extreme Fast Charging" (XFC).

This is Eve Energy, a Chinese company established in 2001 which prides itself on currently being "a global lithium battery company which possesses core technologies and solutions for consumer batteries, power batteries and energy storage batteries", according to its own website.

StoreDot will secure manufacturing capacity from Eve to produce its XFC batteries. The 100in5 cells will be the first to get produced by Eve, and in return StoreDot is licensing its technology to Eve.

StoreDot COO Amir Tirosh said:

This newly minted agreement with EVE Energy is a pivotal inflexion point for StoreDot. We now have the agreement for captive capacity, and it gives us the ability to implement our ambition for mass production of our extreme fast charging cell technologies. This will allow us to serve our customers who do not have their own manufacturing capability.

StoreDot uses silicon-dominant chemistries in order to achieve the "extreme fast charging" status. "100 in x" stands for 100 miles in x amount of minutes. So the "100in5" batteries will give you 100 miles of range in 5 minutes. Next up on the roadmap are 100in4 (slated to arrive in 2026), and 100in3 by 2028.

StoreDot's partnership with Eve began in 2017, and in 2021 Eve made a "significant" investment in StoreDot. Today's announcement thus seems like the very obvious next logical step in their relationship.
