NIO ES7 full specification leaked

NIO ES7 has been delayed numerous times but the launch is now imminent, the Chinese MIIT just included the car in the Catalogue of New Energy Vehicles Exempted from Vehicle Purchase Tax. It means the car is finally ready to go public and it has been approved for sale by the Chinese Government. NIO itself has been quietly trying to hold onto the remaining secrets, of which there aren't many left.

NIO ES7 is a large SUV - at 4,912 mm it sits between the ES6 and ES8, it has a 2,960 mm wheelbase and is 1,720 mm tall and 1,987 mm wide. Those dimensions square it up against BMW X5 with the CEO of the company ambitiously claiming the ES7 is designed to compete with the X5L version of the BMW - that car is 5,060 mm long.

The details everyone has been waiting for are here - NIO ES7 will come with two electric motors, one at the front and one at the rear axle with combined output of 480kW - that’s nearly 644hp - and 850Nm of torque. This family-oriented SUV, will do 0-100 kmh in 4 seconds and it will carry on accelerating up to 200 kmh.

Top speed is mostly irrelevant these days, with the talks of obligatory speed limiters to be introduced soon but the acceleration is getting out of hand. It’s fun and giggles when the car is new but the novelty wears off quickly and handling a 5,000 lbs SUV that can accelerate faster than your average sports car can be a handful. Let’s hope the brakes are up to the task.

NIO ES7 is based on the NT 2.0 platform which it shares with ET7 and ET5. The car will offer the same 19 autonomous driving functions as the other models - it’s a standard equipment available in all trims. The NT 2.0 platform uses NVIDIA Orin processors with a total of 1,016 TOPS making sure that the interface and autonomous driving work as smoothly as possible.

Three batteries will be available for the ES7 - entry level NMC will come at 70kWh capacity and will offer 440km range (273 miles). The second battery is a 75kWh LFP pack, which offers either 450km or 485km of range (depending on vehicle trim). The top of the range battery is a 100kWh NMC unit with 575km or 620km range (357 or 385 miles). Of course all the battery packs are swappable at NIO battery stations. The ranges quoted are most likely to be NEDC or CLTS standards.

The Chinese MIIT is quite specific in details it provides, it gives a good insight into the vehicle - we even get a glimpse of battery weight which is something hardly any automaker shares. The smallest battery weighs 535kg, the LFP pack comes at 525kg and the 100kWh top of the range NMC weighs 555kg. It clearly has the effect on the car’s total weight ranging between 2,361kg and 2,400kg but it is not reflected in the car's performance.

The launch of NIO ES7 has been postponed many times, it was originally meant to be unveiled in April but the publication of all data by MIIT suggests the day is near. The car will be manufactured by JAC-NIO joint-venture with NIO currently building its own dedicated factory. The NIO Park, as it is called, will be a manufacturing hub for all NIO vehicles with ET5 being the first to leave the production line later on this year.
