Production Kia EV9 video teaser - full reveal March 15
There is no question that the Kia EV9 is a very significant electric car for the entire Hyundai group. It will be the largest electric SUV from the brand, it will preview the electric Hyundai Ioniq 7 and it will compete in the US with the likes of Chevrolet Equinox or maybe even Chevrolet Blazer or Cadillac Lyriq.
Thanks to the ever so flexible E-GMP platform from Hyundai, Kia managed to bring us the EV6 which took the world by storm. Hyundai used it on Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6 and Genesis GV60 is possibly the nicest looking EV based on that platform. Now, Kia is getting ready to launch its first electric SUV and here is the first official teaser:
We gotta give it to Kia - the engineers did not stray too far away from the original design of the prototype. The vertical headlights are complemented by an array of pixels fading into the center of the grille and as we can see, will be able to display various patterns and light signatures.
The rear lights are just as unique as the front and create an unmistakable light signature. As the camera swings to the side of the EV9, we notice the flush mounted door handles. The unashamedly boxy body is true to the prototype which is a huge surprise. The entire car swoops gently towards the rear creating a very enticing and attractive silhouette.
The rear door is definitely longer than the front and it suggests plenty of room for the rear passengers and easy way to get in and out of the EV9. Will there be a 7-seat option available? It seems there’s enough room for it.
The debut of the Kia EV9 is slowly inching closer and we can expect to see even more teasers and leaks to come our way before the official reveal on March 15. According to recent leaks, the EV9 will have both RWD 200 hp version and AWD 400 hp trims as well. The EV9 is expected to start at $56,000 and go as far as $73,000 for the top trim.
It will be interesting to see if Kia brings bigger batteries or will it use the 82.kWh packs that we know so well from the entire Hyundai/Kia/Genesis model lineup. Although the EV9 is predicted to be capable of towing up to 4,500 lbs (2,041 kg), it’s hard to imagine the range to be significant when hooked up to a trailer.
