Tesla Model Y with only two seats debuts in France for the commercial vehicle market

Tesla made a new Model Y, but it's not the new Model Y we've all been waiting for, the long-rumored Project Juniper, which we recently found out isn't coming this year to either the US or China.

Instead, we're talking about a Model Y with the rear seats removed. All that's left, seating-wise, are the two front seats. The rest is all storage - and there's plenty of capacity for that here, 76.2 ft³ in fact.

This Model Y has a WLTP range of 351 miles and made its debut in France, where it will be showcased until July 30 in all of the main cities - hit the Source linked below to see the full list and dates.

If you're wondering why Tesla would create something like this, it's obviously meant for the commercial vehicle market, and the reason it's launching in France is a tax loophole that commercial vehicles can take advantage of. Anything classed as such is a vehicle you pay less tax on than anything that isn't a commercial vehicle, and the specifications are pretty lax - but it does need to have no more than two or three seats in the front and zero in the back to qualify.

Hence, this Model Y. The company's Senior Account Manager in France says there are currently more than 6.3 million commercial vehicles in France, the majority of which have diesel engines. This Model Y is meant to be Tesla's way of helping replace those. It will be interesting to see if it catches on in France, and if so, whether Tesla will offer it anywhere else.
