Huawei backed Luxeed S7 re-launched with sharper pricing and faster delivery
Huawei and Chery have faced their share of challenges with their collaborative electric vehicle venture, Luxeed, following the debut of their first model, the S7 sedan. After production delays and customer complaints, the companies have relaunched the sleek EV with price cuts on most trims and improved production to ensure faster deliveries.
Initially launched in late 2023, the Luxeed S7 quickly attracted attention. However, production bottlenecks resulted in lengthy wait times for customers. Now, with a dedicated plant and streamlined assembly process, Luxeed promises a vastly improved customer experience.
The Luxeed S7 offers buyers a choice of five distinct trim levels to suit their needs and budgets. Starting at a competitive RMB 249,800 (approximately $34,500), the range includes single-motor variants like the Pro (438 miles CLTC range), Max, and Max+. For those craving performance, the Max RS and Ultra boast dual-motor setups that deliver exhilarating acceleration, reaching 100 km/h from a standstill in a mere 3.3 seconds. The 82 kWh battery replaces the former 62 kWh pack in the lowest trims.
Luxeed has significantly reduced prices on the Max, Max+, and Max RS trims compared to the initial launch. The entry-level Pro variant keeps the original price but receives a substantial battery and range upgrade.
The Luxeed S7 stands out with its sleek design and generous dimensions (length: 195.7 inches, width: 77.3 inches, height: 58 inches, wheelbase: 116.1 inches). Based on Huawei's 800V high-voltage platform, the sedan promises an impressive CLTC range of up to 531 miles.
Powertrains include single-motor (rear-wheel drive) and dual-motor (all-wheel drive) configurations. Dual-motor models boast a blistering 0-62 mph acceleration time of 3.3 seconds.
Luxeed is pushing the boundaries of driver assistance with Huawei ADS (Autonomous Driving System). The entry-level S7 boasts a basic version of ADS, enabling highway and parking assistance. At the same time, higher trims offer a full-featured version for enhanced city driving support.
After initial hiccups, it seems Luxeed, backed by the strength of Huawei and Chery, has ironed out the kinks and is ready to make a splash in the booming EV market. The price adjustments, improved availability, and advanced features position the S7 as a compelling contender.
