Hyundai's first EV trucks will probably be called Ioniq T10 and Ioniq T7

Vlad, 08 February 2024

Hyundai has already very much established itself in the EV space with the Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6, not to mention the Kona. The Korean company isn't satisfied with just launching cars and SUVs, though, it wants to get into the electric truck space to rival Ford's F-150 Lightning.

And it's looking like it will do so with the Ioniq T10, which is probably the name of its first truck. This is speculated to be a direct competitor to the F-150 Lightning in size, while the Ioniq T7 will be a smaller model that might replace the Santa Cruz in the US. The image below is an interpretation of what the Ioniq T10 could look like, made by SRK Designs, based on Hyundai's current design language.

The information about these names comes from Australia, where Hyundai has recently filed trademark applications for both the Ioniq T10 and the Ioniq T7. The filings refer to these trademarks as being used for cars but also "trucks; lorries".

The names also make sense if you think the "T" stands for "Truck" - and what else would it stand for? All of this fine logic aside, do note that most of this is speculation, so Hyundai may in the end opt to use these names for other vehicles.

If all of this does pan out, don't expect Hyndai's first EV trucks to hit the roads before 2025 or 2026 at the earliest. If you're interested in Korean EV trucks, then Kia might have something for you sooner - namely a truck believed to be called Tasman which should compete against the Ford Ranger and Toyota Hilux. This is said to be using a different platform from Hyundai's Ioniq T10 and arrive next year.
