Maserati Quattroporte Folgore will compete for customers with Tesla and Porsche

Max McDee, 02 April 2023

The 2024 Maserati Quattroporte will be quite a departure from the current model. While the styling will remain very much in line with the current Maserati GranTurismo, the Quattroporte will replace not one but two vehicles at the same time.

The new Quattroporte means the end of the combustion-powered Maserati sedan - the 2024 model will be exclusively available as an EV only. At the same time, the new Quattroporte will replace not only the outgoing model but its smaller sibling Ghibli.

That’s right, Maserati decided to make the future Quattroporte slightly smaller than the current model and at the same time, it is pulling the plug on the Ghibli. The all-electric 2024 Quattroporte will replace the two models and when it comes to its size, it’ll sit right in the middle between the two outgoing vehicles.

While the new Quattroporte is going to be Maserati’s third electric car, after the GranTurismo Folgore and Grecale Folgore, the new sedan will be the first to be offered only with an electric powertrain. Maserati makes the bold move to become the first Italian supercar manufacturer to offer only an electric version of its signature vehicle. The company has an ambitious plan to sell only electric cars by 2030 and the new Quattroporte is a sign of things to come.

Maserati is part of the Stellantis Group and as such, it has access to a wide range of EV components. The car will be based on the STLA Medium platform and at less than 5.2 meters and more than 4.9 meters in length, it will be perfectly positioned to compete with both Tesla Model S and Porsche Taycan. It will feature a new powertrain with more than 1,000 HP - that’s plenty of power to keep up with its competitors.

The underpinning STLA platform and the dimensions suggest the new Quattroporte will have a lot in common with the future Alfa Romeo Giulia. All electric Giulia is coming in 2024 as well and the Quadrifoglio version is rumored to have around 1,000 HP.

With the GranTurismo Folgore sitting at the top of the Maserati range with a price tag of over $215,000, the new Quattroporte will be priced to compete in a lower segment. The company believes that customers will be happy to pay $150,000 for its first electric sedan when it goes on sale in 2024.
