ORA Lightning Cat's launch event is taking place on October 31

Vlad, 27 October 2022

EV launches are getting more and more complex, with teasers, unveilings of sketches, pre-announcements, announcements with no specs, announcements with some specs but no availability info, and so on. Chinese car brand ORA is the latest in a long line of companies to confuse us by announcing that it's going to hold a launch event for its Lightning Cat model on October 31.

That's not a bad thing in itself, of course, but here's the thing - this car was already revealed, with all of its specs, at the beginning of the month. And then it was showcased in its full glory at the Paris Motor Show in mid-October. So what's the launch event for, then? We're assuming this will finally reveal pricing and delivery information, since those are the main things that have been missing so far.

It may or may not also "become available" on that occasion, whatever that may mean. ORA teased the already-announced Lightning Cat on Weibo by saying it will be a coupe with beautiful curves. And based on the official images, which have been out for weeks now, we'd have to agree.

The Lightning Cat could eventually make it to Europe, where ORA already offers the Funky Cat. The Lightning Cat has four battery options - 63.87 kWh, 64.31 kWh, 79.62 kWh and 83.49 kWh - which can net a range of 555 to 705 km (344 to 438 miles) according to CLTC standards. Its single-motor version develops 150 kW, while its dual-motor version achieves combined power of 300 kW and 680 Nm peak torque, allowing for 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) acceleration in 4.3 seconds.
