Xiaomi SU7 Ultra is the new King of the Nurburgring

Xiaomi didn't waste much time with its new EV venture, and now it has raced to the top of the electric vehicle world. The Chinese tech giant has announced that its fastest electric car, the SU7 Ultra, has set a new lap record for production electric cars at Germany's famed Nürburgring Nordschleife.
The production model of the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra tore through the 20.8-km circuit in a stunning 7 minutes and 4.957 seconds. This time officially makes it the fastest production EV to ever tackle the "Green Hell," as the track is famously known. The win is a clear message to legacy automakers that a new player has joined the game. Lei Jun, the CEO of Xiaomi, made it clear this is just the beginning, stating the company intends to be a long-term fixture at the Nürburgring, aiming to innovate alongside the world's most respected car brands.

To put this in perspective, the $75,000 SU7 Ultra is faster around the track than a $2,000,000 Rimac Nevera. It left the Tesla Model S Plaid in dust, and even the mighty Porsche Taycan Turbo GT was nearly three seconds slower. The royalty, such as the McLaren 720S and 600LT, fall nearly four seconds behind the SU7 Ultra, and the fastest Ferrari is the 488 GTB, crossing the line 16 seconds after the Xiaomi. Truly a mic-drop moment both for Xiaomi and electric cars.
The record-setting run by the car customers can actually buy wasn't a complete surprise. A prototype version of the SU7 Ultra had already put the automotive world on notice back in October 2024. That car clocked an even faster, officially certified time of 6 minutes and 46.874 seconds to become the fastest four-door car of any kind, electric or gasoline, to ever lap the track.

The production SU7 Ultra uses the very same powertrain that was in the record-setting prototype. At its heart are Xiaomi's own, in-house developed Super Motor V8s. These motors can spin at an incredible 27,200 revolutions per minute, producing a combined maximum of 1,548 horsepower. This mountain of power rockets the four-door sedan from 0 to 62 mph in a neck-snapping 1.98 seconds, and it will keep accelerating to a top speed of 217 mph.
Before conquering the Nürburgring, the SU7 Ultra had already been quietly collecting trophies at various tracks across China. It set the record for the fastest four-door production car at several major circuits - the Chengdu Tianfu Circuit, the Zhuzhou International Circuit, the Zhuhai International Circuit, and the Zhejiang International Circuit.

For those who want to experience the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra's performance without heading to a racetrack, there's good news. On June 8, Xiaomi announced a partnership with Polyphony Digital, the creative force behind the legendary Gran Turismo racing game series. As part of this collaboration, the production version of the SU7 Ultra will be digitally immortalized and made available for players to drive in Gran Turismo 7. The two companies are also working on a futuristic concept car, the Xiaomi Vision GT.
